Free Online PTSD Test (PCL-5)
The PCL-5 (PTSD Checklist for DSM-5) is a widely used screening tool that measures symptoms of post-traumatic stress in relation to a stressful or traumatic experience. It contains 20 questions covering re-experiencing, avoidance, changes in mood and thinking, and heightened arousal over the past month.
Before you begin: bring to mind one specific stressful or traumatic experience, and answer every question with that same experience in mind. The PCL-5 is anchored to a single event, so keeping one experience in focus throughout gives the most meaningful result.
Each item is rated from 0 to 4 based on how much it has bothered you in the past month. A total score of 33 or above is often used as a provisional threshold that suggests a fuller assessment is worthwhile. A screening score cannot diagnose PTSD, but it can indicate whether a professional evaluation may help.
